Aston Street - Isherwoods

Isherwoods were once a major employer in Wem, being renowned for their timber products. These included butchers' blocks, for which they were renowned. Timber came in via the railway and products were distributed by lorry or by rail. The yard closed in the 1990s, and was derelict for many years. It was redeveloped as a housing estate in the late 2000s, with the main road emerging to join Aston Street by the station carpark. This redevelopment includes much of the old goods yard (see map in the Station page). Brian Bailey well remembers his family using the site for their timber moving business, which has now been relocated to the top end of Aston Street.

On the left are photos of the derelict works before the redevelopments took place.
